Our Kolkata is the city of Joy, the land of dreams, the cultural capital of this nation. Along various heritage architecture and constructions all across Bengal the rich culture associated with the state also stands distinguished. There are a few great people who helped shape the history and culture of Bengal to give it a shining position in the world and for us to be proud of even today.  Rabindranath Tagore, the greatest bards of all times, hails from Bengal. The great filmmaker Satyajit Ray, the Academy award winner for life time achievement, lifted Bengali cinema to a level which could never be touched again. Talking of cinema, Bengal gave birth to legends like Uttam Kumar, Saumitra Chatterjee and many more. In the world of art and culture we still are fortunate enough to have the great Saumitra Chatterjee with us. The first Indian film personality to be conferred with the Odre des Arts et des leters, i.e., France’s Highest awards for an artist, is none other than the Saumitra Chatterjee. What can we say about the legend whose debut film Apur Sangsar won the best film in British film Institute awards, Faro Island film Festival, national board of review USA and New York film critics Circle awards. After that there was no looking back for the veteran who was Best known for his association with the Oscar-winning Satyajit Ray with whom he had done 14 films. It’s really a great honour for us to talk about this legendary versatile actor from Bengal who is an epic of a lesson. From his debut in 1959 he has never missed a chance mesmerising us with his versatility and his command over each character portrayed with elan even today.   Be it a short film like Ahalya or a national award-winning film along with the youngster he always stands out with his distinguished aura and radiant personality. It’s a privilege for all of us to be a witness of his unmatched talent unique work and his  incomparable contribution to the world of cinema.

It now falls on our shoulders to treasure everything we can from this great maestro for us and for generations to come. His vast plethora of knowledge, his insight, his experience as a is like a jackpot to be treasured and cherished and learnt from forever.
